About Heathcote House

Heathcote now and its place in local history…

Heathcote House is a grade II listed home, it’s features are seen all over the house and garden. We are told it used to be a nunnery and we still have the door from here to the brew house next door in the garden wall. There is an atmosphere of past times but the contemporary additions give comfort to your stay.

The garden is a real feature and is ever evolving and always surprising us. The Kitchen Garden was designed by previous owners with sleepers and raised beds, beautifully designed and structured to make the most of the space. The gardens provide ample seating for relaxing day and night.

It has been reported Theophilus Marzials the poet lived in Heathcote House for 3 years before moving to Devon. A wonderful couple from Beirut are writing a book dedicated to works. He is known for his poem A Tragedy, often referred to as the ‘worst poem ever’ however he was a huge success in life time …. more to come from the local history group.
